LocNet 2025 | Gender Engagement Activities in Focus Countries | Kenya

 

A1.3 Consolidating and finalizing the national strategies for the gender integrative approach in the focus countries. 

Activities

  1. Assess the best way to integrate gender in the school of community networks training.
  2. Develop a best practices document for the integration of gender in CCCIs for the schools
  3. Start the engagement with other key stakeholder in Kenya who work on issues related to women and communities.

Outcomes

  1. Increased understanding of women and gender integration barriers in CCCIs in the rural Kenyan context
  2. Enhanced inclusivity and gender responsiveness in the national school of CN and training.
  3. More participation of women and marginalized groups in the CCCI initiatives.
  4. Increased awareness among trainers and participants to address the issue of gender disparities in the CCCI.
  5. Identification of the best practices that can be scaled and adopted across different contexts.
  6. Strengthened policies and frameworks to support gender equality in the CCCI.
     

Output

  1. A documented guide with case studies, Recommendations, and best strategies for incorporating gender-sensitive approach in the National School and other CCCI training.
  2. A dissemination plan to share findings with relevant stakeholders in Kenya.


A 1.7 Provide gender-specific capacity building, sensitisation and mentoring for support organisations and their communities within focus countries. This includes various strategies for community engagement, movement building and knowledge and learning integrative approaches such as: solidarity circles, training of trainers, referral systems and in person exchanges.

Activities

  1. Identify best practices for women's participation in community networks.
  2. Support women’s participation and attendance of CCC workshops through the creation of a solidarity network between CCCIs.
     
  3. Establish solidarity relationships with relevant NGOs working for women’s rights and women’s integration in their communities.
  4. Conduct women circles with women in CCCIs and the communities to have gender conversations in the local communities.


Outcomes

  1. Identify and document best practices for enhancing women's participation and involvement in the CCCI.
  2. Increased women's participation in CCC workshops through structured solidarity networks within the CCCI.
  3. Established relationships and partnerships with NGOs advocating for women's rights and inclusion in the digital space in Kenya.
  4. Strengthened peer-to-peer support and mentorship for women in community networks.
  5. Conducted three women's circles to facilitate gender discussion in CCCI in local communities.
  6. Increased awareness and engagement in addressing gender disparities in digital access.


 Outputs

  1. A best practice report on women's participation in the CCCI.
  2. A structured solidarity network framework for supporting women's participation in the CCCI workshops.
  3. Partnership agreement with relevant NGOs in Kenya working on women's rights and digital inclusion.
  4. A report documenting discussion and key insights from the women's circles.
  5. Actionable recommendations for fostering gender equity in CCCIs based on community dialogues.



A 1.9 Gain a deeper understanding of identified priority thematics through the establishment of three distinct communities of practice which will promote the exchange between focus countries in regions.

A 2.8 Support the visibility and engagement of women in CCCs by securing the necessary resources for women to advance their engagement in CCCIs and other relevant ICT spaces for the advancement of gender responsive strategies.

Activities

  1. Ensure the inclusion of women and girls in CCCIs related activities, particularly those led by LocNet and their partners.
  2. Support the establishment of a woman-led CCCI in rural Kenya (Irene Misoi).

Outcomes

  1. Establish a guideline for deploying a CCCIs in Kenya led by women in rural areas.
  2. The visibilization of women led CCCIs in the Kenyan context and in the world.

Outputs

  1. A guide and a webinar on establishing a women led CN in Kenya.
