About the Mentor

Karla Prudencio

Karla was a Senior Legal Advisor for the Mexican Federal Institute of Telecommunications and the head of the Transparency and Data Protection Office of the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE). She has a well-established record of working with rural and Indigenous communities in Mexico on connectivity and digital rights. Currently, Karla is the Policy Advocacy Chief at Redes A.C., and Researcher from the Mexican Center for Technology and Community Knowledge (CITSAC), and acts as a Technology, Policy, and Digital Rights Researcher for Rhizomatica. Also, she is the Director of the Law School Bachelor’s Program en Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas A.C. She holds a Master’s in Law, Science and Technology from Stanford University and a J.D. (LL.B) from CIDE.

Structure


In this talk, Karla will share some of her questions and learnings from her path as a member of NGOs that work to accompany Indigenous and community-based media and connectivity projects. She will reflect on some of the methodological and theoretical issues that come into place when we discuss regulation as processes woven with the long paths of autonomy that Indigenous Peoples have built within Mexico.
