SPACE 22

SPACE - Socio Political Advocacy for Community Networks Engagement is a capacity-building and movement-building programme that is conceived and designed within the LocNet initiative.

SPACE is a mentorship programme that aims to bring together digital community network practitioners and advocates, as well as internet governance and digital rights activists based in the global South to enhance the participants’ understanding and skills so that they can engage in effective advocacy aimed at fostering an enabling community network policy framework that intersects with local gender rights. The programme is rooted in local experiences and holds an intersectional feminist approach to policy advocacy.

SPACE intends to be a safe space that supports and equips women, gender-diverse, queer and trans individuals to take on leadership roles for community network advocacy in policy and regulatory spaces. This year, the programme will be open to every individual who wants to engage in policy advocacy from an intersectional feminist perspective.

The SPACE programme is designed to expose participants to a wide pool of women, who have been leaders in the policy advocacy environment of CNs and the Internet in general. We hope through this mentorship programme for participants to learn from and be inspired by the mentors and fellow participants who they will have the chance to exchange learning time with.

SPACE will run online from 1 September through 25 October 2022.  Participants and mentors will be meeting twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 13 to 14:45 UTC. There will also be office hours for participants to meet with the coordinator should they have questions or would like to explore ideas further.
